The Origin of the “Baguette Bag”
The “Baguette Bag” originates from Italy, where skilled artisans have perfected the art of leather craftsmanship for generations. This bag was first introduced in the 1990s by the renowned Italian fashion house, Fendi. It was Karl Lagerfeld, the creative director of Fendi at the time, who conceived this compact bag inspired by the shape of a French baguette, hence the name.

We utilize genuine top-quality leather. Ganza Roma’s goal is to use materials that are as sustainable as possible. All our leathers are byproducts of the food industry that would otherwise go to waste, and we never use exotic leathers. They all come from responsible sources, mainly from Europe, and none are sourced from deforestation-risk areas like Brazil. We only work with tanneries certified by the Leather Working Group, most of which have obtained Gold or Silver ratings for their advanced sustainability, traceability, and social practices.
Our packaging is sustainably made with partially recycled FSC-certified paper, fully recyclable, or biodegradable and compostable bags.
All our leather items are handcrafted in a factory in the regions of Lazio and Tuscany, embodying the mastery and artisanal techniques that we believe quality should represent. It may take 50 or more distinct pieces and various skilled artisans to craft one of our bags. Each style requires an incredibly elaborate process, making each bag a small work of art.
